Welcome back to Trivial Warfare! Thanks for joining us for our first All-Sports episode. Today features special guest host Ramona Rice of Sports Gal Pal fame. This is actually our first themed episode of any sort. We hope you love it. For those of you who may not be into sports, never fear, you’ll probably still feel superior to Jonathan as he misses question after question.
As with any sports trivia game you can expect the usual questions about Golf, Tennis, Baseball, Football, Olympics, etc. But only on Trivial Warfare do you get a sprinkling of History and Movies with your sports questions. We didn’t manage to work any science into this episode. That will be something we have to shoot for next time.
Enjoy the show and then head over to the Sports Gal Pal show and check it out too!
What NFL running back was nicknamed “The Law Firm?”
Since we talked about Deflategate’s impact on BJGE after he left the Patriots I wanted to link articles that have influenced my thinking on the matter.
Name the movie that goes with the quote:
“You’re going to eat lightning and you’re gonna crap thunder!” –
So we were a little bit off in our discussion about this last quote. The quote is actually the very first line in the movie as spoken by Susan Sarandon. The speech that Chris and I remembered comes much later and is the more powerful of the two, but it doesn’t have the line. I’ve included both for you. I’ve also included a long clip from the middle of the movie that is just too awesome to leave out.
I’ve got to say, Bull Durham gets funnier as I get older.
What is the longest running baseball franchise in the Major League?
I was shocked to get this answer wrong so I researched it after the recording session. It turns out that the Cincinnati Red Stockings are considered the first professional team. However, disbanded soon thereafter because the endeavor proved too expensive for the owners. One of the owners started up fresh in Boston and brought half the team with him. This is why the correct answer is the Braves rather than the Reds.
How many wins did the Tampa Bay Rays have their inaugural season in 1998?
To be fair to Chris and I, the Rays won 69 games in each of the next two seasons.

What college has the most Heisman trophy winners?
Ohio State and Notre Dame are tied for the most trophies at 7 each (USC's 7th having been vacated).
Here’s a list of the Heisman winners for each school. Truthfully this section is as much for me as it is for you so that I’ll have a better chance of remembering in the future.

USC – Mike Garrett (1965), OJ Simpson (1968), Charles White (1979), Marcus Allen (1981), Carson Palmer (2002), Matt Leinart (2004), Reggie Bush (2005)
How many NCAA tournaments has the women’s basketball team at UConn won?
Correction - We said on the show that the team had 10 National Championships. According to the UConn website they actually only had 9.
We laughed about how good the Lady Huskies have been since Auriemma (I spelled that right on the first try!) took over. He took over in 1985. Before that point the team only had one winning season in team history. Since that point his record is 879-133. That’s an .869 winning pct.

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. What two countries started it?
