Well we are back with another round of awesome show notes. Episode 48 is a handicap match with Daniel assisting me in the valiant fight to defeat the tyranny known as Jonathan Oakes. Carmela, the First Lady of Trivial Warfare is back in the host seat with a lot of really hard questions for the three guys. This episode proved to be really challenging. How did you do for yourself??
No intro to the show for this episode so let’s get in to the...
Listener submitted question for your Warm it Up Chris Question. Special thanks to Chris Barton for this question. Please submit all Warm it Up Chris Questions to WarmitupChris@yahoo.com.
Q: Which 10 US States as of 2015 have the most big 5 (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and MLS) Sports teams?
- Californian (17)
- Texas / Florida (10)
- New York State (9)
- Pennsylvania (8)
- Ohio (7)
- Illinois (6)
- Massachusetts / Missouri (5)
- Colorado (4)
OK, let’s get in to the revenge of Carmela…here comes the tough questions!
Q: What music producer is credited for coming up with the Wall of Sound?
A: Phil Spector
Before being found guilty of murder, Spector was a very talented and sought after producer. The attached video is an explanation of what the Wall of Sound is. Worth the 9 minutes to watch and learn a little.
Q: General Francisco Franco became the dictator of what country in 1939?
Again, this question frustrated me…I really thought this was not Spain…a few months ago, the King and Queen of Spain came to St. Augustine, FL and the news here was all over it. So this is why I crossed it out. And then Jonathan getting it right really felt like a kick between the pants. I had the answer in my head and blew it. Sigh…
Q: Who wrote the novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
A: Hunter S. Thompson
In all reality, I think Carmela’s questions might be winning this one so far. #justsaying
Q: Metrophobia is the fear of what?
Poetry?? Poetry?? Really?? Ugh. FYI…after an exhaustive research, the closest I found to fear of cities is agoraphobia, the fear of being in wide open in places. If you know the fear of cities email me at WarmitupChris@yahoo.com and I will update the show notes and give you credit for it. Thanks!
Q: Who is the Egyptian God of the After Life?
Q: How many wheels does a hansom cab have?
Q: What is the only bird that can fly backwards?
Q: Which river dumps the highest volumes of water in to the sea / ocean?
This question kind of sucked. Just saying.
Q: What is the highest grossing basketball movie of all time?
A: Space Jam
So after 3 rounds, Jonathan is still leading 50 to 40. I think I need to vomit...
Q: Name five out of the six wives of Henry VIII.
A: Henry VIII of England Spouses
o Catherine Parr
Married from 1543-1547
o Catherine Howard
Married from 1540-1541
o Anne of Cleves
Married from 1540-1540
o Jane Seymour
Married from 1536-1537
o Anne Boleyn
Married from 1533-1536
o Catherine of Aragon
Married from 1509-1533
UGH!! I hate this question. This just stinks. It is a great question, but this always trips me up. And if this question is asked to me again today, I will still get it wrong. UGH!
Jonathan cushioned his lead with that question and is winning 70 to 48.
Q: What lunar phase has the moon at three quarters full?
Q: Who holds the record for most MLB baseball games played?
A: Pete Rose
Q: Who fired the first shots in the defense of the Fort Sumter at the beginning of the US Civil War?
A: Abner Doubleday
During the show we had a long discussion on Doubleday not inventing the game of baseball. Jonathan had to delete the discussion out because we knew somethings, but not everything. And a lot of the things I said were a load of poop. This is where Jonathan (as much as I like to rail on him during the game) is the best editor. He will not put it in the show unless he knows it is truthful. The amount of research and time this man puts in to each show is incredible. So tip of the virtual hat to you and your editing skills Jonathan.
OK, enough of this nice crap. Jonathan is still beating the mess out of us 80 to 48. We (Daniel and me) did not get one answer right in the 4th round. UGH!!!
Q: What US capital name means “Red Stick”?
A: Baton Rouge, LA
Nothing real exciting to say about this question…except we finally got one right!
Q: What album’s cover features the band’s bassist smashing their instrument on a stage?
A: London Calling, The Clash
Q: Who was the first host of The Tonight Show?
A: Steve Allen
This one felt so good! I take serious pride in my TV knowledge…I needed this one to try to keep it slightly close against Jonathan.
Jonathan still in the lead 100 to 68 against Daniel and I. Well, not a complete blow out going in to the sixth round.
Q: At the beginning of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring what were they celebrating?
A: Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday
Wow! Two in a row…we really needed this one. And two in a row that Jonathan did not get. Booya!
Q: Who has won the most MVP awards in a single sport?
A: Wayne Gretsky
Well there goes that one…Jonathan is back…sigh. Jonathan did a dance on this one…seriously we need a camera on this podcast!
Q: The Falkland’s War was a conflict between what two countries?
A: United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982
Going in to the finals, Jonathan has a commanding lead, 110 to 78.
Q: Name the following firsts in the following: First athlete on a Wheaties box, First American in space, First Confederate State to be readmitted to the Union, First person to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A: Lou Gehrig, Alan Shephard, Tennessee, Chuck Berry
What a brutal final question! Carmela threw me off with this style question. Great question, but just different for the final. Wow…we got it wrong, Jonathan got it wrong…it comes down to points.
So with a final score of 90 to 0, Jonathan wins. Ugh….it is another win for Jonathan. The thing that stinks, is that I do not get a chance to go after Jonathan again for a while because the Listener Tournament is beginning in a couple of episodes! And I will say this, Jonathan may have been the winner of this episode, but I really feel like Carmela won this episode. She really did.
